Cards of Neven

A new step !
After two years spent with FSV Mainz, Neven was on the move once again, this time to Dortmund to continue enhancing his career. Like in Mainz, he discovers a city where almost every person is a supporter of the BVB.

Tied to human values and confident relationships, Neven meets people that facilitate his integration both in the city and in the club.

Neven fits right in Dortmund’s First Team and Jürgen Klopp has put his trust in him from the very beginning. Neven is once again impatient to play his first match in the BVB Stadium, one of the biggest in Europe. On July 23rd, 2008, Dortmund welcomes - who else - Bayern Munich and Neven is in the starting 11. He is overwhelmed for his first match in the packed BVB Stadium, with 80 000 supporters. Neven played an outstanding match in facing the Italian international Luca Toni, the best striker of Bundesliga.

Less than a month later, on August 16th, 2008. Neven plays his first regular season match in the Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen. Not only does he start, but he would also score the 3rd goal for his team and lead the BVB to victory. Things would pick up from there and get even better with a string of good matches and decisive goals for Dortmund against Cottbus and Schalke 04.

He would add two more goals on November 15th against Eintracht Frankfurt. These two goals from his defensive position will serve as a very fond memory in his young career and add to the fantastic starting season, which will lead him to be named in the ideal 11 team of the first part of the 2008-09 Bundesliga season.

Statement of 2008-2009 season : the BVB Dortmund is the 2nd best defensive team of Bundesliga and Neven played 33 matches and scored 6 goals.

Keep improving!
Now at 20 years old, Neven begins the 2009-2010 season as a key player for Dortmund and National Team member of Serbia. Although a lot has been accomplished in a very short timeframe, he knows that he must keep going, like he did in the past season, to reach the heights of Bundesliga.

Despite the fact that BVB Dortmund has the youngest team in Bundesliga, it continues to perform well against the leading teams.

If BVB Dortmund continues progressing on the same curve, a qualification for the European Cup seems to be within reach for Jürgen Klopp’s young team.
